UW–Madison Libraries - How gifts make a difference

When you give to the UW–Madison Libraries Impact Fund, you empower the UW-Madison Libraries to support our areas of greatest need. Over the past year, these needs transformed rapidly as our campus community adjusted to the fluid situation caused by the global pandemic.

Our donors’ gifts ensured instructional continuity and the advancement of critical research by enabling the Libraries to quickly expand remote access to our collections and services, and then to implement our Library-by-Appointment services.

Since last March, this financial support guaranteed access to crucial material, spaces, and equipment when they were needed most, and has safely made possible:

  • 55,320 InterLibrary Loan requests

    • Pages scanned: 506,910

    • Requests filled from other institutions’ collections: 39,187

    • Requests filled from our collections for other institutions: 46,004

  • 26,611 study space appointments

  • 7,353 scheduled Pickup-by-Appointments

  • 2,637 laptop loans to 1,715 individuals

  • 11,614 Ask a Librarian chat sessions

Why we need your support

Your support will allow the Libraries to continue leveraging our expertise for the benefit of the campus community and beyond. With your help, the Libraries can continue to:

  • Pursue collaborative projects with our campus partners, such as the COVID-19 Wisconsin Connect project that our Business Reference and Data Librarian Peggy Smith supported

  • Provide access to Open Educational Resources, which advance textbook affordability, equal access to knowledge, and increased retention and student success

  • Teach critical research and information literacy skills to the majority of undergraduate students at UW–Madison through the two-course Undergraduate Communication Requirement

  • Support faculty in meeting their course resource and content needs
