Honors Program

Welcome to the Letters & Science Honors Program where we create an intellectual home and provide support for highly motivated and high-achieving students. In a nutshell, the mission for our honors students is: discover your talents, broaden your experiences, connect with outstanding scholars, develop your leadership potential, and make the world a better place. Honors admission is based not on grades and scores, but on thoughtfulness, engagement, and the desire to belong to this inclusive student community. Created at the demand of students, the Honors Program invites every L&S student to apply and embodies the essence of the liberal arts.

Thanks To Our Recent Donors!

The Honors Program combines the spirit of a liberal arts college community with the resources of a leading research university and high-caliber faculty. Enrolling approximately 7 percent of all Letters & Science students, the Honors Program encourages in-depth intellectual work in faculty-led seminars, close contact with world-class faculty, breadth and depth of knowledge, creative thinking, informed citizenship, and research projects from the freshman level to senior honors thesis projects. Honors students are ambitious, engaged, passionate, and idealistic. We offer them individualized advising, host honors events throughout the year, and provide research funding.

Our Goal

The support of generous donors enables us to offer special honors programming and events throughout the year and to award grants for research, study abroad, leadership projects, and more every year.

Make honors better and stronger by helping us achieve more, support more students, and look to the future. Here’s what your help means to our students:

  • Research apprenticeships for freshmen and sophomores
  • Senior honors thesis grants
  • Awards for students to study abroad and present their work at conferences
  • Honors community-building events, excursions and cultural programming, book discussions, and conversations with faculty
  • Honors scholarships for underrepresented minority students

Why are donations necessary?

Help us support the bright, curious, enthusiastic and high-achieving honors students in Letters & Science as they immerse themselves in the ideals of the liberal arts: intellectual curiosity and breadth of knowledge, engaged citizenship, leadership, and service to make the world a better place. Donor gifts currently fund 70 grants to students annually. Your support will help honors students reach their goals, expand their opportunities, and realize their dreams of success. None of this would be possible without you! If you believe in the liberal arts and providing opportunities to students who aim high, the Honors Program needs your support.
