We are one of the oldest and most respected departments of gender and women’s studies in the country. Our interdisciplinary curriculum prepares our students for continuing graduate and professional education, as well as employment in diverse fields, from marketing to social work. We see the classroom as a potent site for the production of self-knowledge, where students look beyond their own perspectives to understand the lives of other people. Our students are engaged in classes, research, internships, extracurricular organizations, and other activities that enhance their experience at the UW, but more importantly, that prepare them to excel in their careers when they graduate.
Our goals focus on supporting our undergraduate students via academic, leadership, and professional development scholarship opportunities. We hope to:
Our students are engaged in classes, research, internships, extracurricular organizations, and other activities that enhance their experience at the UW, but more importantly, prepare them to excel in their careers when they graduate. Many must also work to support themselves while at the UW and could use additional support to make it easier to participate in these activities. Student scholarships recognize excellence, but they also give students an extra boost when they apply to graduate or professional schools or when they enter the job market.
