How Gifts Make a Difference

Thanks to a generous gift from gender and women’s studies faculty members, the first $1,000 of all gifts will be matched, dollar for dollar! This year, our fundraising goals focus on supporting our students via academic, leadership, and professional development scholarship opportunities. We hope to be able to recognize academic excellence among our students, promote student research in gender and women’s studies, support professional development opportunities, and help fund travel to conferences and national meetings. Your gift would help us recognize excellence and support our students in their professional growth and development.

Why We Need Your Support

We are one of the oldest and most respected departments of gender and women’s studies in the country. Our interdisciplinary curriculum prepares our students for continuing graduate and professional education, as well as employment in diverse fields, from marketing to social work. We see the classroom as a potent site for the production of self-knowledge, where students look beyond their own perspectives to understand the lives of other people. Our students are engaged in classes, research, internships, extracurricular organizations, and other activities that enhance their experience at the UW, but more importantly, that prepare them to excel in their careers when they graduate.

Our goal

Our goals focus on supporting our undergraduate students via academic, leadership, and professional development scholarship opportunities. We hope to:

  • Recognize academic excellence for students in their junior and senior years ($1,000 awards)
  • Promote undergraduate research and allow students to attend the statewide gender and women’s studies conference or the National Women’s Studies Association meeting ($200–$500 awards)
  • Help underwrite costs associated with participation in our internship program ($150–$500)
  • Support student leaders to attend undergraduate leadership training conferences ($200–$500)

Why are donations necessary?

Our students are engaged in classes, research, internships, extracurricular organizations, and other activities that enhance their experience at the UW, but more importantly, prepare them to excel in their careers when they graduate. Many must also work to support themselves while at the UW and could use additional support to make it easier to participate in these activities. Student scholarships recognize excellence, but they also give students an extra boost when they apply to graduate or professional schools or when they enter the job market.
